t's possible, but not necessary. Ours is up year-round in Minnesota, and we've never had an issue. I occasionally touch it up with black Rust oleum if I find a chip, but it doesn't need much attention. We're in our 3rd season with it. During the warmer months, it gets used almost daily. It even gets used in the winter months sometimes.
