How far out should the pole/in ground hardware be placed if it is in front of a fence or wall?

You will want 17" clearance from the backside of the main pole to the obstacle. This will allow room for the adjustment mechanism which is mounted on the backside of the main pole. You can visit the Pro Dunk Gold page on our website for a great diagram that will help you with pier placement as it relates to court striping and obstacles such as retaining walls, fences and property lines.
